Hey there, mama! Can we all agree that motherhood is the wildest, most beautiful roller coaster we’ve ever been on?
Some days, it’s all cuddles and coos; other days, it’s trying to remember the last time you showered.
Worry not; you are not alone, and what may help is a good old, tried-and-true daily mom routine.
I know, I know—the word alone can make you feel like you have a knot at the back of your neck. But hear me out: As a new mama of twins, building a solid routine was like having a shiny new BFF.
The best part? They’re not rigid schedules or military precision monsters that send shivers down your spine. They’re more like guidelines to create a rhythm that will work best for your family while being as flexible as your baby’s mood.
So, let’s dive into some super simple tips for creating flexible, sanity-saving routines that fit your unique family dynamics. And always remember: It’s all about progress, not perfection.
10 Tips for a Stress-Free Mama Daily Routine
1. Write It Down: List your way to sanity!
Taming the mom-life chaos became so much easier when I started to write down my daily, weekly and even monthly goals and tasks. It was like giving my brain a much-needed vacation.
Even more satisfying than using cute aesthetic pens and planners (I am a sucker for cute planners and pens. Shhh, it’s our little secret!) is the triumph I feel from crossing the tasks off the lists! It’s like a tiny victory lap in the middle of the chaos, making me feel like I can take on the world.
So, grab that planner, open that note app and write your way out. Your sanity (and maybe even your sanity-saving wine glass) will thank you!
2. Morning Magic: Start your day with intent!
This is my favourite part of scheduling what my days should entail. Set the tone with a simple task for yourself that’ll require little of you.
I do this by adding my one mental intention for the day. An example is by adding that my number 1 task for the day is to “BE CONFIDENT.”
Now, whenever I’m going through the day, I’m reminded that no matter what, I’ll move through my day with confidence, whether in myself or my abilities as a new mom.
3. Be Flexible: Allow for reset times and adjust as needed!
A great way to practice this is by lowering your expectations. By lowering your expectations, you can accept changes and curveballs as they come. And let’s face it, these come in all shapes and forms daily.
This also helps to reduce the stress you may place on yourself to get things done and right all the time.
4. Divide and Conquer: Involve your partner.
Teamwork makes the dream work—a cliche to hang on to with dear life!
Delegating and sharing duties with your partner gives them a sense of purpose and a chance to do things around the home. Plus, this provides the opportunity for a great bonding experience.
5. Hack the Housework: Prioritize tasks and tackle essentials.
Have specific days of the week for particular tasks. This may seem overwhelming when you think about all the work to be done, but hold on—I’m on to something here.
Choose one day of the week, usually the day you have the most help, when the house gets a deep clean. Another day of the week is when the laundry gets tackled. This can also be one of those delegated tasks.
6. Meal Prep Magic: Save time on your busiest days.
When the energy shows up, batch-prepare your meals, refrigerate, and freeze them accordingly.
This can be a lifesaver, allowing you to adequately nourish your body and your family on the days you feel like you’re one tantrum away from falling over.
7. Schedule Quiet Time: Wind down for baby and mom.
Having scheduled wind-down times for you and your baby can be significant when things get too complicated. This gives your baby time to explore their independence and imagination while you take a moment to recenter yourself and have some me-time.
It’s also a perfect time to practice some mindfulness and remind yourself about your number one task for the day.
8. Self-Care Squeeze: Self-care isn’t selfish – it’s survival!
I know, I know, it feels impossible to squeeze in “mom time” with all the chaos around you.
But self-care is essential to your survival that you make time for yourself and schedule it. And by planning it, it is important to write it down. This way, you have a visual reminder that you are not something to be put aside for another day; you are a priority, just as any other task or goal you want to accomplish!
You deserve to recharge and feel good about yourself. Your well-being and your family will benefit from a happier, healthier you.
9. Ditch the Comparisons: Focus on your own fabulous!
Comparison is the thief of a mama’s joy or whatever the quote says.
Let’s talk real for a sec; that may be all we’ve got with how mom life is. Social media makes it seem like everyone else has it all together while you’re struggling to remember the last time you washed your face. Remember, you’re seeing highlight reels, not the whole journey.
Every mom’s journey is different, comparing yours to everyone else’s is like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.
Focus on your process. It may only sometimes feel like it, but I’m here to remind you that you’re doing a fantastic job.
10. Celebrate Your Wins: Acknowledge your superpowers!
Every goal you meet, every task you cross off your list, no matter how small, deserves a cheer.
As moms, we don’t always get the recognition we deserve for all we do, and to take it a step further, we don’t always acknowledge all we do. We don’t always think we deserve credit for showing up daily to stop the ship from sinking.
So now I’m encouraging you to recognize that you often do the impossible, and you’ve made it another day.
Say it out loud in the shower or write it down; remember to appreciate your superb super mom skills!
The challenges of motherhood come in all sizes, shapes, and colors, and there’s no one-size-fits-all solution.
These daily mom routine hacks are meant to guide and show that there are no set rules for creating a routine that fits your needs. They are intended to be flexible and adaptable, just like us moms.
You don’t always have to try harder; sometimes, you can try different. So, take what works for you, leave what doesn’t, and always be kind to yourself.
And hey, if all else fails, there’s always coffee or your favourite drink, a cozy blanket, and the hope that tomorrow will bring a fresh start.
I’m rooting for you. You’ve got this, mama!
